Hematology and Stem Cells

Studies of the biological properties and functions of adult stem cells (hematopoietic, mesenchymal) in the context of homeostasis and pathological conditions. Research includes several directions:

  1. defining the mechanisms regulating the therapeutic potential of stem cells originating from different adult and perinatal tissues,
  2. development of in vitro strategies and protocols for the improvement of stem cells regenerative potential,
  3. studying the properties and functions of adult stem cells in inflammatory diseases,
  4. studying the properties and functions of adult stem cells in malignant diseases,
  5. examining the potential of adult stem cells, their products and biomaterials for use in the development of advanced 3D in vitro model systems.

NEXT THREE YEARS

Research will be focused on the development of new precision medicine strategies based on the clinical and diagnostic application of stem cells and their products with the high potential in the field of innovation development and technology transfer. This research will include:

  • assessment of the therapeutic potential of adult stem cells and their products in parallel with optimizing the conditions for their expansion and improvement of regenerative potential,
  • identification of rare adult stem cells populations and their specific phenotype in homeostasis , aging-associated diseases and malignancies,
  • defining novel cellular biomarkers of aging-associated diseases and malignancies to improve diagnosis, prognosis and targeted treatment,

  • establishment of gene editing technologies to test the stem cell gene function related to pathogenesis of aging-associated diseases and malignancies,
  • development of advanced in vitro 3D model systems based on the use of stem cells as a platform for testing drugs, pharmacologically active substances and biocompatibility of various materials.
