Scientific Seminar Spotlights Advances in Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation

Published 15-04-2025

On Friday, April 11, Dr. Jovana Bjekić, Head of the Neuroscience Group, delivered a Scientific Seminar at the Institute for Medical Research.

During her talk, Dr. Bjekić presented findings from a series of empirical studies exploring the use of transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) to enhance associative memory.

“Memory is a fundamental cognitive function essential to daily life, yet it is highly vulnerable to decline due to aging, pathological conditions, and neurodegenerative diseases. Non-invasive brain stimulation, particularly transcranial electrical stimulation, has emerged as a promising approach to memory neuromodulation. However, the effectiveness of tES remains limited by a lack of precision and personalization,” Dr. Bjekić noted.

Building on contemporary conceptual models and neurobiological foundations of memory, the Seminar outlined experimental approaches to develop more precise and individualized neuromodulation protocols.
