Published 19-03-2025

At the Scientific Seminar of the Institute for Medical Research, held on March 14, Ricardo López Solís, a PhD candidate from the University of Barcelona currently undertaking a three-month research internship at IMR, delivered a lecture. López Solís introduced the work of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Safety (INSA) and the Polyphenol Research Group, where he conducts his research.

His PhD focuses on the potential health benefits of tomato consumption, particularly its effects on the microbiota-gut-brain axis. The Seminar featured findings from a clinical trial and an analysis of prostate cancer risk, further highlighting the role of tomatoes in disease prevention and overall well-being.

“During this research internship, I plan to analyze the interaction between albumin and the dominant polyphenol in tomatoes and its impact on the antioxidant capacity of albumin,” López Solís emphasized, discussing his research at IMR.

The Seminar facilitated knowledge exchange among researchers, paving the way for further collaboration between scientific institutions in Serbia and Spain.
