A Scientific Seminar was held at the Institute for Medical Research on July 9, featuring a lecture by Dr. Milena Čavić, a research professor at the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, titled “Profiling Prognostic and Predictive Biomarkers in Solid Tumors at the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia.”
During the lecture, Dr. Čavić presented research on prognostic and predictive biomarkers in solid tumors conducted at the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia using advanced omics technologies and the integration of molecular findings with clinical data. This approach supports the identification of biomarkers that may enable a more accurate assessment of disease progression and the likelihood of response to a specific treatment.
Using the STEPUPIORS and EXPAND-EV projects, implemented under Horizon Europe, as examples, Dr. Čavić presented research approaches to personalizing treatment for locally advanced rectal cancer and lung cancer. The studies aim to improve treatment response rates, extend survival, reduce treatment-related toxicity, and enhance patients’ quality of life.
The findings are expected to contribute to the development of new national cancer treatment guidelines incorporating scientifically validated evidence, as well as to assessments of the cost-effectiveness of applying integrated models in routine clinical practice in Serbia.
The Scientific Seminar was held in the library of the Institute for Medical Research, with the option to participate online via Microsoft Teams.
