The Institute for Medical Research presented the AID project at Science Day, held on July 11 at the Jevremovac Botanical Garden in Belgrade. Through conversations with researchers and a range of interactive activities, visitors learned more about how food choices affect health and why dietary recommendations should be grounded in reliable scientific evidence.
As part of the interactive activity “Build an Anti-Inflammatory Plate: Would Your Meal Pass the Science Test?”, visitors selected foods for their meals and explored the principles of a nutritionally balanced diet. The “Myth or Fact?” game invited them to examine whether widely held beliefs about nutrition are supported by current scientific evidence. Visitors to the booth also received educational materials featuring practical recommendations, recipe ideas, and key information about the ongoing project.
Discussions with the research team focused on questions people encounter in their everyday lives: how to assess the reliability of nutrition information, how to interpret recommendations from different sources, and how to apply scientific findings when choosing foods and planning meals.
“There is a wealth of information about food and health available to the public, but it is not always based on reliable evidence. This is why it is important to communicate research findings clearly and responsibly, enabling people to make informed decisions and gradually develop habits that can support their health,” said Dr. Vesna Vučić, the project coordinator.
The AID project investigates the effects of an anti-inflammatory dietary pattern in women with breast cancer who are receiving aromatase inhibitor therapy. The study assesses whether a tailored diet can help improve quality of life and reduce treatment-related risks. The project is funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia under the PRISMA program.
