Dr. Saša Radovanović, Director of the Institute for Medical Research, took part in a four-day study visit to Copenhagen, held as part of the StarTech project and organized by NALED.
The visit focused on Denmark’s approach to building a strong life sciences sector, with particular attention to how preclinical research, clinical trials, biotech development, and the commercialization of scientific results are connected in practice. Representatives from Serbia’s healthcare, academic, regulatory, and innovation sectors took part in the program, allowing the process to be explored from several institutional perspectives.
During the visit, Dr. Radovanovic and other members of the delegation held working meetings with key players across Denmark’s life sciences system, including the Danish Life Science Cluster, Healthcare Denmark, the University of Copenhagen, BioInnovation Institute, Bioneer, the Danish Medicines Agency, and Trial Nation. The discussions looked at how Denmark creates an environment where biomedical and biotech solutions can move forward more efficiently: from early assessment of research potential and regulatory preparation to clinical collaboration, industry engagement, and the transition of innovations beyond the research setting.
For the Institute for Medical Research, which will be part of the future BIO4 Campus Belgrade, these insights are important for further strengthening translational capacities and developing partnerships that can connect biomedical expertise with the needs of the healthcare system, industry, and society.
